The Town of Yorktown

Heralded as the first advanced life support fly car system in Northern Westchester, Empress served as a pioneer in Yorktown as evidenced by the numerous systems that followed. With no formal means of funding available, Empress provided the Town with a pilot program designed to immediately bring advanced life saving skills to residents until a permanent means of funding was developed. Since 1993, Empress has provided the Town with state-of-the-art advanced life support services.

Within the system, Empress operates a paramedic response unit staffed by two paramedics during the day and one at night. The unit is currently stationed at the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and operates 24-hours a day responding simultaneously along with the Yorktown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Mohegan Volunteer Fire Department on all emergency ambulance calls. If advanced life support is required, the Empress paramedic accompanies the patient to the hospital while providing an advanced level of care on board the volunteer ambulance.

When the program was first implemented, Empress identified the need to provide basic life support volunteers with additional training. The company subsequently provided a series of ALS workshops for volunteer EMT's and first responders. The workshops provided a comprehensive overview of advanced life support and introduced providers to the various equipment and techniques used by paramedics
