The fly car
concept consists of a an SUV type vehicle with a full complement
of advanced life support equipment. It is staffed by one or two New
York State Certified Level IV paramedics. The paramedics respond
on 911 calls along with volunteer ambulance squads and provide
advanced life support when needed.
In 1993, Empress served as a pioneer, establishing the first
Paramedic Fly Car system in Northern Westchester. Having
utilized a fly car system in the City of Yonkers for several
years, Empress was well versed in both its development and
operations.
In a mutual partnership with both the Yorktown Volunteer
Ambulance Corps and the Mohegan Lake Fire Department, Empress
made available the life saving tools that comprise Advanced Life
Support (ALS). The additional service supplemented the volunteer
basic life support ambulances. The two combined provided a
superior service that has been recognized by numerous awards
issued by Westchester County.
